It might seem dreary and painstaking at first because the job market is not abundant and there’s too much fierce competition, but there are ways in which you can seem equally competent and increase your chances of being hired.
It’s best to start preparing from when you’re in college itself. You could visit you college career services and get some advice and us their resources. They would be able to provide you some excellent information on how you could go about looking for a job, where you can look for jobs based on your interests and what you want to do, etc.
You could start working on your resume and practicing for interviews by getting some help and resources from your university or college’s career services. You could start in your senior year so you would have adequate time to prepare yourself for the big job hunt.
It’s important to focus on your interview. Practice some techniques with your friends and roommates. You need to give an impressive interview along with your application. It wouldn’t help to just have an excellent application, but fall short in the interview. Interviews are critical and need to be worked on a lot.
It’s good to start looking for internship positions when you’re about to finish college. Internships are better ways to gain experience and prove your ability than part-time or full-time jobs. They provide an excellent platform to get a permanent position later on.
Most successful people start out as interns. If you ask some of them they would be able to tell you that it’s the best way to start. Internships are great platforms to start networking as well.
You should also start doing your search on some good job sites like Beyond.com or Monster.com. If you follow all these tips and work towards them you will certainly increase your chances of finding a great job and career soon after college.
